Northop Grumman - Machine Control Intern

Location: Clearfield Utah

Dates: May 2018 - August 2018

I functioned as the junior member of the machine control group. We maintained the human machine interface software that allows operators to control machines that place and compact carbon fiber to make parts for the Airbus A350 airplane.

As part of my main project I expanded the tool loading functionality to speed up and simplify the process for the operators. I also helped get some new forming stations up and running, troubleshooting issues with our industrial projectors.

As side projects I wrote standard work instructions, updated software and performed minor bug fixes.

This video was taken back in 2013 for the Paris Air Show. At this point Orbital ATK had not yet been acquired by Northrop Grumman. The machines I worked on can be seen between the 10-15 second marks and the 51-59 seconds marks. The shots show very little of the actual functionality of these machines for proprietary reasons.
